The year 2020 kicks off a whole new decade in which you can set yourself up for power moves that will catapult you to the top of your career path or new business venture. That pink tule bathrobe wearing, sipping champagne on your private jet lifestyle doesn’t just happen though. You have to plan for it. Once you’ve clearly defined what you want out of life, and set smart goals, you’ll see just how powerful your intentions become.
Here are five steps that will help you get everything you want in 2020 and beyond.
#1. Have The Right Mindset
Before you take a single step or make any kind of plan, you need to get your mind right. That means putting an end to negative thinking. Full stop. Don’t allow a single negative thought to ruin your mood. This is your time, own it.
#2. Know Your WHY
Identify not only what you want but why you want it. Your motivation increases greatly if you have a strong WHY. Everyone knows they want a higher salary but knowing you want a higher salary because it will lift you out of debt and allow you to start a family, now that’s motivation. A vision board exercise will help you identify your WHY if you’re struggling to find it. Make it a group activity with some of your business savvy girlfriends who also want to make this their best year ever.
#3. Set SMART Goals
“I want to be skinny,” isn’t a very good goal. It’s vague, unending, and provides no measurement for success. “I will lose 5 pounds using a calorie counter and fitness program, within 30 days,” makes a lot more sense. All goals need a way to measure them and a deadline by which you want to complete it. When setting goals, use the SMART acronym which stands for:
#4. Take Action Every Day
Goals are great but you can’t speak things into existence no matter how hard you try. Wake up every morning, review your list of goals, and get to work. You’ll find that with a positive mindset and a clearly defined WHY, the motivation will flow through you like an unstoppable current of electricity. Break big goals into smaller action items that you can tackle each day. I suggest doing your hardest activity of the day first, then it’s all smooth sailing from there.
#5. Reflect And Adjust Accordingly
While you want to start each year, month, or week off with making plans, you’ll want to finish with reflection. Schedule time with yourself for a little one-on-one session of reviewing how your week went. Be honest with yourself about what worked and what didn’t, and make adjustments as needed. You need to find what works best for you and if you aren’t happy then your goals might not align with what you truly desire. When all five of these things are working in harmony, there is no goal for your future you can’t obtain.
